NASA has loosened it standards for acceptable risk to the space shuttle, the New York Times reported on April 22, 2005 but a spokesman for the U.S. space agency said the shuttle will resume flying only if safe. The newspaper cited internal documents including one saying that lesser standards must be used to determine acceptable risks, 'because we cannot meet' traditional standards.
