  • 1968 Martin Luther King, Jr., buried in Atlanta 
  • 1969 1st flight of Concorde 002 (Filton-Bristol)  
  • 1970 Paul McCartney announces official split of Beatles 
  • 1979 Longest doubles ping-pong match of 101 hours, begins  
  • 1979 51st Academy Awards - "Deer Hunter," Jon Voight and Jane Fonda win 
  • 1991 Date of Microsoft MS DOS 5.0 
  •  20032003 invasion of Iraq: Baghdad falls to American forces;Saddam Hussein statue topples as Iraqis turn on symbols of their former leader, pulling down the statue and tearing it to pieces.
